UniGifts
UniGifts turns encouragement into something real. Instead of just saying “well done,” a parent or family member can send a learner a funded gift — a gift with actual money behind it that the student redeems toward their UniMatrix access. It’s a way to reward genuine effort and pay for the learning that comes next.
The five gift tiers
Section titled “The five gift tiers”Every gift belongs to one of five tiers. The tier sets the price and the prestige — Spark is the warm “you’ve started” gift; Platinum is the rare, earned one. Each tier comes in two themed versions: one for UniLearn (academics) and one for UniSkills (building).

Each gift carries a short, meaningful message about what reaching it represents — so the gift feels like recognition, not just a top-up.
What the student actually receives
Section titled “What the student actually receives”A gift has a redeemable cash value. UniMatrix retains a 10% platform fee, so the redeemable value is 90% of the gift price — for example, a ₵100 Bronze gift redeems to ₵90. When a gift is redeemed, that amount is paid out as real money to a verified Mobile Money or bank account (see Getting paid).
How parents purchase a gift

From the Parent Portal (or the gifts area), choose the learner you’re gifting.

Choose UniLearn or UniSkills, then a tier from Spark to Platinum.

Complete payment in GHS. The gift is then sent to the learner.
The gift card and personal note
Section titled “The gift card and personal note”Every gift comes with a gift card — a designed presentation of the tier the learner is receiving — and a space for a personal note from the sender. This is where the gift stops being a transaction and becomes personal: a parent can write what they’re proud of, why they’re sending it, and what they hope it helps with. The card and note are what the learner sees first when the gift arrives.
How students redeem gifts
Section titled “How students redeem gifts”When a learner receives a gift, they open it and choose Redeem. Redeeming turns the gift’s redeemable value (90% of the gift price) into a cash payout to a verified account. How it completes depends on the learner’s age — see below.
Getting paid
Section titled “Getting paid”Payouts are sent securely through Paystack to a Mobile Money (MTN, Vodafone/Telecel, AirtelTigo) or bank account. Two rules keep it safe:
- Name verification. Before an account can receive money, we verify the account holder’s name with the provider and check it matches the account owner’s own name. Cash can only ever go to an account in your own name — never a number typed in for someone else.
- Who the money goes to. For an adult learner (18+), the payout goes straight to their own verified account. For a learner under 18, the payout goes to their guardian’s verified account, after the guardian approves it (see below).
Once approved, the transfer is sent and usually arrives shortly. Everyone who receives a payout gets a branded email receipt with the amount, the gift, and a reference. There is a small minimum payout (currently ₵20) so a tiny redemption isn’t eaten by transfer fees; every gift tier is well above it.
The under-18 redemption approval flow
Section titled “The under-18 redemption approval flow”UniGifts is built to be safe for younger learners. For students under 18, redeeming a gift creates a request that a linked guardian reviews — it does not pay out automatically. The guardian approves it in the Parent Portal, and the money is sent to the guardian’s verified account for them to pass on. This keeps a responsible adult in control of real-money redemptions, so younger learners can be celebrated and supported without being handed unsupervised control of money.
The family interaction messaging system
Section titled “The family interaction messaging system”Gifts don’t happen in silence. UniGifts is connected to UniMatrix’s family messaging system, so gift cards appear inside family conversations — a parent can send the gift and the message together, and the family can react and talk about it in one place.
